Technologies change the art of the possible. Few would doubt the need to rethink and radically alter our approaches to health and healthcare in the 21st century. Two important technologies that change our strategic options in that pursuit are artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technologies with immutable and distributed record. New roles are possible for the spectrum of health providers, payor and patients. Whatever that future is, it will involve distributed decision rights and authorities; continuous audit and compliance assessment; sharable health record with validity and rights preserved; rich assessment of outcomes and efficacy; effective diagnostics and predictive analytics; and other aspects related to lifetime attention to health of the individual and community.
